An inside look at the materials that go into a Wrensilva

Since 2016 Wrensilva® has been hand-crafting only the finest record consoles in sunny San Diego. Rooted at the intersection of high design and technological innovation, the fundamentals of each console lie in the hardwoods that are hand selected for each console. Read on to learn more about the process straight from the source, co-founder and chief product officer, Scott Salyer.

Q: How does your team go about choosing the wood for the consoles?

Scott: We love to work with North American Walnut because it's just simple and so classic. It's rich and has a dark grain that only exists with Walnut. It's what comes to mind when you think of an old classic console so we wanted to pay homage.

We added Ash in the mix since it has a gorgeous creamy, light color that never changes with time unlike some other lighter options.

Q: Where are the hardwoods sourced from?

Scott: We source domestically so we're proud to say that they're all North American hardwoods. We get our materials from a lumber supplier just down the street and that has proven to be the secret sauce in maintaining the level of excellence and perfection we strive for with every console.

Q: What sets the materials apart from the rest?

Scott: Our supplier sorts only the best of the best, about the top 10% of materials, and we hand-select from that. This ensures that we're only choosing top of the line hardwoods.

Q: How does the team go about selecting the materials? What is the criteria?

Scott: This is why it's integral that our source is local. When we get an order, we handpick each piece of lumber that qoes into the console, so we can really replicate our original design and what consumers see on our site.

That means selecting material with no discoloration or defects, and with a similar grain and mix of natural curling throughout. We always strive to obtain perfection and having this level of control over the
lumber we're picking helps make it possible.

Q: How does that make Wrensilva consoles a cut above the rest?

Scott: By picking one large piece of lumber per console, we're able to match up the grains perfectly, creating a gorgeous waterfall effect over the sides. It allows the outer shell of our consoles to flow with perfect alignment of the grain. It's small details like this that really add to the quality of the product that we're sending our customers home with.
