Wrensilva consoles are hand-made entirely from our San Diego workshop. Unlike most furniture brands our size, each wood piece is hand-selected with craftsmanship in mind from the start. We don’t overorder or cut corners. Every board we bring in is chosen for its character, strength, and the specific role it will play in a console, whether it’s framing the structure, showcasing the grain, or housing the heart of the sound.

What are the woods you use?
- Natural Walnut: A classic finish with rich, warm tones and distinctive grain highlights, captures the enduring elegance of North American Black Walnut.
- Tobacco Walnut: North American Black Walnut is meticulously finished to a rich Tobacco hue, resulting in a dark, tonal grain pattern that exudes bold sophistication.
- White Oak: Light tan, golden hue. Alive with highly textured, open grain patterns. The embodiment of strength, stability and longevity. The quintessential heirloom wood.
- Teak: Plantation grown in two small organic farms in Costa Rica, air dried for over two years making it cured and very stable. It displays a mixture of various golden brown hues with an abundance of unique grain patterns.
Why these woods?
- Natural Walnut is timeless. It's a beautiful wood. Dark, rich color tones. Stable. Sustainable. Domestic.
- The Tobacco Walnut is a riff on the Walnut. It feels fresh.
Tobacco stain results in consistent color. Also ages differently as a result of the stain. - Oak is timeless. Synonymous with strength and longevity. Hard. Very stable and consistent in its aesthetic. Deep pores in the wood make for outstanding natural texture when finished. Radial Flecking. Sustainable. Rot-resistant. Domestic.
- Teak is a wood with a strong reputation in the furniture industry. Known for its characteristic light orange to reddish brown color scheme, it also is synonymous with durability and longevity. Hard, dense, and smooth. Our teak comes from a 50-acre farm in Costa Rica where it is air dried for two years before being brought directly to San Diego.

Tell me about the wood selection process for Wrensilva consoles.
When we look at wood, we search for something special, a unique characteristic that sets it apart from what is commonly used in the furniture world. The way we look at wood selection isn't so much about the wood's color, it is about its texture, what it does when it catches the light (the chatoyance of the wood), how it feels to the hand, how it will lend itself to our standards of construction integrity, and what the wood story itself evokes in me and hopefully the customer.
During the selection process of the wood, we are looking first and foremost for the premium representation of that wood varietal. Our vendors understand that we have very high standards and work with us to source specific qualities from reputable mills. Next, we look at characteristics within the wood that form relationships, connecting each part of the console. The wood takes on a holistic quality creating a seamless, balanced wood mosaic primarily through grain, color, and texture. It should look natural for each separate piece to flow organically into the next. If we’ve done our job correctly it should be difficult to see where one piece begins and another ends.
At Wrensilva, the selection process for wood begins long before a console takes shape. Each piece is hand-selected with quality as the guiding principle–chosen not in bulk, but with intention. Every board is procured with a specific purpose in mind, allowing for greater precision in design and minimizing unnecessary waste. This meticulous approach filters out imperfections at the source, ensuring that only the finest cuts become part of a Wrensilva console.
The result is twofold: exceptional material integrity and an inventory where nearly every piece of wood serves a meaningful function. All consoles are finished with water-based coatings, and every piece of lumber is sourced from responsibly managed forests—a commitment to both craftsmanship and care.
